no valentine's sweets for me please...

I have decided this year instead of one big New Year's Resolution I was going to try to tackle smaller and more manageable ones each and every month.  If I can concentrate on one goal each month by the end of the year I will have drastically changed my habits.  January was no coffee month and I am very proud to say I succeeded!  After the first week I didn't crave it anymore and I can actually say I don't foresee myself starting to drink it again.  I am hoping that the same goes for February's challenge...no sweets or treats!!!  This includes everything from chocolate to chips, doughnuts to pies!

Since I returned from my honeymoon in October I have had a very difficult time getting back into the healthy eating habits I had before the wedding.  Add Christmas to the mix and the picture gets even worse.  I haven't gained a ton of weight but my clothes are definitely feeling a bit on the snug side.  Being that I do have a smaller frame, 5'3" and a half, every couple of pounds is noticeable, at least to me.  I just want to feel comfortable in my clothes again.

So I am going to try to kick start that by cutting out all the unnecessary calories in my day!  I am hoping that I experience a similar pattern as I did with coffee, I crave it for the first few days but once the sugar is out of my body I won't really want it anymore!

A couple of upsides to tackling this challenge in February are:
1. It is a short month, if I really miss the sugar that much it means I can start eating it again that much sooner (not the point I know but it is still good to be prepared and think these things through)
2. My husband will have to support me on this and not buy me anything sugary for Valentine's day, so maybe instead I will get something shiny :)

So here goes nothing...welcome February!

the start of our journey...

My very first post!  So exciting! For quite a few months now, maybe even years I have been following one of my best friends fashion blog.  Through her blog I started reading other blogs, who I now follow on a regular basis.  I have thought about starting a blog myself for quite some time, but the thought was so intimidating.  What would I talk about, would anyone read it, would they care.  My life is not all that exciting and I definitely can't blog on fashion like my friend Alicia because lord knows I am not a fashionista like her!  But then I got thinking, I love to cook and I love to help people cook so why not start a blog that incorporated not only my life, but cooking.

Coming from an Italian family, my love of cooking, entertaining and eating is pretty much in my blood.  Anytime I can have people in my house and I can entertain them I am in heaven.  There is just something about having a whole group of family and friends together in one place enjoying themselves!

Besides cooking another great love of mine is shoes, hence the name Cooking in Stilettos.  I own way too many shoes (according to my husband, I still think it is not enough) all with a heel over the 3" mark.

A little bit more about me, I currently work in advertising, however my goal is to become a Stepford wife very soon, wearing cute outfits, cooking, shopping and going to the spa all day.  I just got married 4 months ago to a fabulous man, Arlen, who LOVES my cooking.  That is why we are such a good pair, I cook and he eats!  He also loves my plan of being a Stepford wife, he is very supportive!  (I am sure you will be reading lots more about him on here.)  In addition to advertising I own my own dance studio, where I am one of the directors and teachers.  I love teaching, dancing has always been a passion of mine and I find teaching now allows me to continue experiencing that joy that I used to get from being on stage!

Well that is a little bit about me.  I hope you enjoy my blog and that we will be able to share some great food together!  Thanks for reading!
